Purpose
Monmouth County ARES/RACES/Skywarn (MCARS) is the combined group of amateur radio operators in the ARES, RACES, and Skywarn programs in Monmouth County, NJ. Our "clients" are the NJ Region of the American Red Cross, the Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management, and the Mount Holly, NJ office of the National Weather Service, as well as any other Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) that may be active in our area.
Our purpose is to provide backup communications utilizing amateur radio for each of our clients as needed during a disaster.
We can communicate within Monmouth County, throughout the state of New Jersey, and to our surrounding region.
TL;DR - the quick info:
We hold a monthly roll-call net on the second Saturday at 10:30 AM on the Asbury Park (GSARA) repeater, 147.045+, PL-67.
We hold monthly training meetings on the second Saturday of the month (at 2:30 PM) at the American Red Cross facility in Ocean Township, NJ.
Amateur Radio Operators who reside in Monmouth County, NJ are invited to contact us if they would like to participate in our program. All are welcome, regardless of experience and equipment. We will gladly assist you, but keep these guidelines in mind:
dual band VHF/UHF radio(s) are desirable
various VHF/UHF antennas from mobile to portable
battery power for above radios
A willingness to serve - we want you to participate!

National Weather Service, Mount Holly, NJ (Skywarn)
Emergencies happen 24x7... so that's when you are getting a phone call!!
18 or over with a valid drivers license highly recommended, but not required
Ability to work long hours under pressure in a noisy environment - and keep your cool
Willingness to undergo extensive training (most of it being self-paced and online)
